Making Waves, Weekly Lesson Schedule 

FOR CHILDREN FROM 3.5 YEARS OLD THROUGH TO COMPETENT SWIMMERS  
VENUE: Aldwickbury School, Wheathampstead Rd, Harpenden AL5 1AD 
Summer Term Dates (9 weeks) 
Saturday 20th April - 29th June (no swimming 1st June - half term) 
Beginners 
Beginners classes are run for non swimmers through to children who are working towards 10 metres. The teacher will be on poolside with a number of helpers in the water to encourage and ensure the children are safe and enjoying their lesson. 
Improvers 
Improver classes are run for children who can swim 10 metres on their tummy and back. The teacher will be on poolside with helpers in the water. The aim of these classes is to develop stroke technique. 
Advanced 
Advance improver classes are held for children who are deep water safe and who can swim 10-25 metres front crawl, back stroke and breaststroke. These classes continue to work on stroke technique and introduce stamina. 
Competent 
Classes are also run for more competent children who can swim 25 metres plus. The teacher will look at improving the style and stamina of the swimmer. The children will also learn a variety of skills to help them work towards different awards. 

Weekly Timetable 

Our classes are divided into progression stages. We have awards attached to nearly every class, so we can reward your child for their swimming development. 

Beginners 

A - The aim of this class is to get the children happy in the water and start building their confidence 
 
B - Children will start to swim independently up to 5 metres tummy and back, putting their faces in the water and learning to breathe 
 
C - We are aiming to achieve 10 metres tummy and back by the end of this class so that your child can move into our improver class 
 
D - We are aiming to achieve 10 metres tummy and back by the end of this class so that your child can move into our improver class 

Improvers 

A - So, your child can now swim 10 metres tummy and back. We will now introduce technique 
 
B - Continuing to work on swimming technique along with a variety of other skills, including push and glides and getting objects from the bottom of the pool 
 
C - Technique getting stronger, we will now introduce small circuits of the shallow end of the pool and introduce swimmers to deeper water. At the end of the term, swimmers will aim the achieve their 25-metre award, ready to go into our advanced Improver class 
 
D - Technique getting stronger, we will now introduce small circuits of the shallow end of the pool and introduce swimmers to deeper water. At the end of the term, swimmers will aim the achieve their 25 metre award, ready to go into our advanced Improver class 

Advanced Improver 

A - Now in deeper water, stroke technique in all 3 strokes will be checked and continue to be worked on. Circuits of the pool in deeper water will be introduced 
 
B - Emphasis is continued to be put on technique. Swimmers will work on streamlining their strokes. Circuits of the deep end will be increased and diving introduced. 
 
C - By the end of this class, swimmers will aim to achieve their 50-metre award in either front crawl, backstroke or breaststroke, getting them ready to move into our 1st competent class 
 
D - By the end of this class, swimmers will aim to achieve their 50 metre award in either front crawl, backstroke or breaststroke, getting them ready to move into our 1st competent class
